Don't Let Anyone Stop You

Updated: Sep 18, 2019

What do you want to be when you grow up? Isn't that something they ask us when we are kids? I recently asked my 4-year-old daughter and she responded like a kid with a huge imagination saying, "Super Girl!" Without any hesitation I responded, "Yes, be Super Girl or anything you set in your mind."

Her charisma and enthusiasm took me back to when I was a wee lad and had same dreams and ambitions. But what happened to those dreams? Those ambitions of being someone big that moved the world?

I simply fell into the land of familiar. Now, if at this point you became lost, I recommend you read the book "The Dream Giver" by Bruce Wilkinson. In the book it discusses what happens to us when we "grow up". The world works to have us forget the dreams we once had and to conform to a place that becomes familiar to us. This leads us to not want to try anything new and remain in our comfort zone.

I realized that I had fallen into such state and due to the "realities" of life, my dreams had disappeared, and I found myself stuck to an occupation that was safe and providing enough for our needs.

Now, like in the book, when I decided to make a change in the routine that my life was in, a lot of controversy was met. As intended when you are wanting to be different, those who were used to you being one way will fight that you don't change as you also threaten their land of familiar.

I am here to say, that it will be hard, as those who will be against you will be those you were expecting to support you, but when it relates to your dreams and reaching your true potential, your drive should not depend on anyone but yourself and God.

So, the moral of this is...don't forget your dreams. Don't let anyone determine your potential or your worth. You are valuable, you are strong, you are meant for great things, you can achieve anything you set in your mind. Don't let anyone stand in your way, not even yourself (self-doubt, fear, anxiety). Just go and trust that it will work out.
